GMD Training

In August 2018, the NERC Board of Trustees approved a Request for Data under Section 1600 of the NERC Rules of Procedure to obtain geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) data collected by NERC entities. The GMD Data Request was developed to meet FERC directives in Order No. 830 for collecting geomagnetically induced current (GIC) and magnetometer data from registered entities for the period beginning May 2013, including historical data existing as of May 1, 2013, and new data for GMD events going forward. The first reporting deadline is June 30, 2021.

GMD Reporting Obligations – Pursuant to Section 1600 of the NERC Rules of Procedure and the approved GMD Data Request, NERC will request the Entity Administrator of a Transmission Owner (TO) or Generator Owner (GO) to inform NERC annually as to whether or not the entity collects GIC data or magnetometer data.

GMD Data System Launch Date – The GMD Data System will be available beginning October 1, 2020.

GMD Application Training Schedule – Registration is required. All training sessions will be held via WebEx and will focus on the GMD application located in the ERO Portal.
